No. Discogs is the encyclopedia and the marketplace, and it's brilliant at both, we're not rebuilding it. Kollekta is the daily-use layer that sits on top: the calm, fast, artwork-first place you actually open to decide what to put on tonight. You can sync your Discogs collection straight in, so you're not typing it all out again. Think of them as companions, not competitors.
Right now, nothing, Kollekta is free through the alpha. We're still working out pricing beyond that, but two things are certain: there'll be a one-off option for people who, like us, are tired of subscriptions, and anyone who helps shape the app during the alpha will be looked after when we launch. We'll say exactly what it costs, clearly and well ahead of time, before anything ever changes.
Kollekta is in a small, invite-only alpha, opened to a handful of collectors at a time. Join the waitlist and tell us about your collection, and we'll bring you in when there's a wave that suits, we're starting with a focused group so we can get the experience right before opening up. There's no way to buy or skip the queue; confirming your email just puts you near the front of it.
Kollekta deliberately leaves some things to Discogs. It won't tell you what your collection is worth or the going rate for a pressing, and it doesn't pull in Discogs' pressing-quality debates, that's their world, and they do it well. Kollekta is pointed the other way: at enjoying your collection rather than valuing it.
The focus is the visual browsing experience, the insights into how you actually listen, and, further down the road, a way to share your love of music. If you live for matrix numbers and market prices, Discogs is still your home, and Kollekta will happily sync with it.
No. Discogs sync is completely optional. You can search for albums and add them directly, or import your collection from a spreadsheet, so whether you've kept meticulous Discogs records for years or you're just starting to take collecting seriously, you're welcome. If you do connect Discogs, you stay in control of exactly what moves, and Kollekta warns you before anything is removed.
Yes, Kollekta runs in any modern mobile browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it behaves like an app. There's no separate app to download during the alpha. Desktop is the best experience today, and mobile is being actively improved as we go, it's where a lot of the alpha feedback is pointed.
